Kia Dashboard Light & Symbol Meanings Explained

Many of the Kia dashboard lights simply indicate that a feature is active, such as Cruise Control or your high-beam headlights. However, there are also Kia warning lights that indicate a serious issue with your vehicle that should be addressed by Kia service experts immediately.

Your Master Warning light can be identified by an illuminated triangle with an exclamation mark in the center, which indicates problems with two or more of the following systems:

  • Washer fluid
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD)
  • Fuel Cap

Of course, there are also Kia warning lights that indicate more specific issues with your vehicle, including:

  • Malfunction (Engine Malfunction) Indicator Lamp: This Kia dashboard symbol is also known as the “check engine light.” As you may have guessed, it indicates a problem with your engine or emissions.
  • Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light:This light will alert you immediately if it detects that your engine oil is not at the right pressure. Improper engine oil pressure can cause overheating and engine damage, so it’s essential to add more oil as soon as possible.
  • Electric Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light: If you see this Kia warning light, there is an issue with your steering system. You may also notice an increase of effort required to make steering corrections.
  • ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) Warning Light: This Kia dashboard light features the letters “ABS” surrounded by a circle and parentheses and indicates a critical issue with your braking system that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Malfunction Indicator: If you see a Kia dashboard symbol that looks like a horseshoe with an exclamation point in the middle, this means your tire pressure is low. If there is an issue with your TPMS, you’ll see the symbol flashing when you start your Kia.
  • Airbag Warning Light: The “AIRBAG” light may illuminate or start blinking if there is a malfunction with your airbag system. You don’t want to be driving around Kendall without your airbags, so bring your vehicle into a certified Kia service center to have this looked at immediately.
  • Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light: This Kia warning light will illuminate in red as a result of your engine overheating. This can be an extremely hazardous issue, so don’t hesitate to contact our team for help if you end up stranded.
